Team history
Latvia reached EURO 2004 by beating Türkiye 3–2 on aggregate in the play-offs: a home win was followed by a 2–2 draw away. It was their first major senior finals.
Aleksandrs Starkovs' team then held Germany to a goalless draw in Portugal, although they did not advance from their group. Māris Verpakovskis, Marians Pahars and Vitālijs Astafjevs were among the defining names of that era. The 2004 campaign remains the principal tournament milestone in Latvia's independent national-team history.
