Team history
Austria took bronze at the 1954 World Cup after a remarkable 7–5 quarter-final win against hosts Switzerland, one of the competition’s defining matches.
The modern European story started later: Austria co-hosted EURO 2008, then reached the round of 16 in both 2020 and 2024. In 2024 they finished above France and the Netherlands in their group before losing to Türkiye.
