Team history
Germany’s historical record includes West Germany's titles before reunification: World Cups in 1954, 1974 and 1990, and EURO victories in 1972 and 1980. The later titles came at EURO 1996 and the 2014 World Cup. East Germany has a separate record.
Different generations shaped that history, from Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller to Lothar Matthäus, Miroslav Klose and Philipp Lahm. Hosting EURO 2024 brought a quarter-final run that ended against eventual champions Spain after extra time.
The 2014 world title came after a 7–1 semi-final victory against Brazil and a 1–0 extra-time win over Argentina in the final. Both matches belong to the same successful campaign, but asked very different questions of the team. Miroslav Klose's World Cup scoring record was established across several editions, not in that tournament alone.
