Team history
With a very small player base, their senior national-team history is measured mainly through individual results rather than appearances at major finals.
The 2–2 draw against Portugal in October 2004 remains a notable example: Liechtenstein recovered from two goals down against the recent EURO finalists. Mario Frick, Rainer Hasler and goalkeeper Peter Jehle represent different generations of the team. Their international careers provide continuity in a country whose clubs compete in the Swiss league system.
