Team history
Türkiye reached the EURO 2008 semi-finals through late comebacks against Czechia and Croatia, eliminating the latter on penalties after a last-moment equaliser.
Türkiye returned to the European quarter-finals in 2024, beating Austria before losing to the Netherlands. They then qualified for the 2026 World Cup, ending a 24-year absence from that tournament. Rüştü Reçber, Hakan Şükür, Nihat Kahveci and Arda Turan represent earlier generations; their careers belong to earlier chapters of the national team’s history.
