Team history
Goran Pandev took North Macedonia to EURO 2020 with the winning goal against Georgia in the play-offs, then scored their first finals goal against Austria.
The tournament ended in the group stage, but another significant result followed in March 2022: a 1–0 World Cup play-off win away to Italy. Defeat by Portugal in the next round prevented a World Cup debut. These two campaigns are separate milestones, illustrating both the possibilities and the difficulty of reaching successive major tournaments.
