Team history
Sweden's best World Cup finish came at home in 1958, when they reached the final before losing to Brazil. Another strong generation won bronze in 1994, while the 2018 team reached the quarter-finals without relying on a single attacking star.
Their strongest European Championship run was the semi-final at EURO 1992, also hosted in Sweden. Gunnar Gren, Gunnar Nordahl and Nils Liedholm represent an earlier football tradition; Henrik Larsson and Zlatan Ibrahimović belong to later eras. Those individual careers give context, but Sweden's tournament record also includes achievements by teams with very different styles and personnel.
