Team history
The consecutive EURO–World Cup–EURO titles between 2008 and 2012 made one generation a defining reference in international football.
The 2024 side won all seven matches at the European Championship and beat England 2–1 in the final. In 2026 Spain defeated Argentina 1–0 after extra time to claim another world title. The midfield era of Xavi Hernández and Andrés Iniesta and the later generation are distinct chapters of Spain’s history.
Spain also won the Nations League in 2023. Their four European titles make them the competition's most successful men's national side, but future EURO 2028 participation still depends on the applicable qualification process rather than their honours list.
The first European title in 1964 was decided by a 2–1 victory over the Soviet Union in Madrid. In 2008 Spain beat Germany 1–0 in the final, then defeated Italy 4–0 in the 2012 final. These are distinct tournament campaigns, even when they form part of the same honours list.
